- Mental health
Like all exercise, Pilates promotes the release of endorphins which are the feel good hormone that make you feel AH-MAZING after your session. But beyond that, Pilates connects your mind to your body and focuses heavily on breathing intentionally with your movements. This practice works much in the same way meditation does in bringing awareness to ourselves and increasing positive self and thought processes.
- You’ll age with grace
Pilates has been around since the early 1900’s; it’s tried and true, and it does exactly what it says it will. A regular Pilates practice will not only help you now with your balance, strength and agility – but it will help you when you’re in your 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and beyond!
- Spacial awareness
The Pilates method not only helps you discover your sense of self within space (balance), but it helps you gain an understanding about just what your body can achieve, for example gaining a full range of motion in your joints and finding more fluidity in your movement.
The original Pilates method focuses only on body weight movement & exercise; in a life or death situation this is the amount of weight you may need to pull out of a burning car or lift from a window. While weight training is a great method of fitness, Pilates offers you the level of strength which is required to live life healthy & well. And often you will find the those who train in alternate discourses struggle significantly with Pilates and body weight exercises such as planks, as they didn’t start with the basics first!
- It feels AMAZING
You know how when you go to a gym class, you leave feeling like you’ve just been hit by a freight train? And then you wake up the next day and can barely sit on the toilet…? Pilates will work you hard, but instead of leaving you feeling tight or sore, you’ll feel more firm in your ‘core’, leaner and 100 feet tall.
